"The tunnel is closed"

Departed Simcoe around 8:45am Saturday morning. Multiple guests at the motel shared old car stories and asked us questions. The road was less traveled, morning was cool, eager we were to hit Dearborn. We noticed tobacco, peach trees, blueberries, and much corn along the roadway in parts named the "Talbot Trail."

Almost ran out of gas before lunch, miles went by with no gas stations, no signs indicating gas ahead, finally a Shell station off the planned route. Whew.
Lunch in Blenheim @ Fat Jimmy'z (not Jim's eatery), passed by Julie's (not Julie'seatery), good lunch, then Lake Erie waved to us from the south side. Awful, unexpected detour that took us away from a photo opp along the Lake Erie shoreline and an unexpected alternate route to Windsor, Ontario and the Detroit River.

On to the Ambassador Bridge to Detroit, but oh my, THE DELAY! Why? "The tunnel is closed," he said,  as he scrambled in his blaze yellow Tshirt to redirect motorists from one lane to another to avoid a disabled 18 wheeler. Jim was concerned about Henrietta overheating and overusing the clutch as we went up, up, and up the east end of the bridge.  HOT, 90°. Poor Henrietta. Finally, and after nearly an hour of crawling over the bridge.. Detroit.

  1. Glad you made it safe and sound. I have been stuck in similar traffic jams on the bridge and the tunnel. Rather be stuck on the bridge 🙂
